This checklist is to be used in conjunction with the Cannon Lab 3T Scanning Notes. It is not an explanation of how to scan!

Log into the fMRI Logger


Enter your password, EXPERIMENTER NAME, RESEARCH PROTOCOL & Enter the exam number
Enter Exam number from signa console
Enter the Signa ID (ID that is meaningful to the experimenter)
Do Safety and NeuroCog Screens
Record the HSPC# for the subject on the consent form and in the logger box.

Consent the Subject

Subject completed metal screen and is currently metal free.
Subject has read and sign (in BOTH places) the STRUCTURAL & FUNCTIONAL MRI consent form
Leave the STRUCTURAL & FUNCTIONAL MRI form consent form in the signed consent bin.
HSPC# is written on the consent form.

Register the Subject on the Signa
Create Signa ID. Do not use spaces, "!", ";", or other fancy characters.
Enter: Signa ID, Subject Name, Sex, Age, Weight, Description of Scan.
Enter the signa ID on the logger.

Position the Subject in the Scanner
Have subject put in earplugs
Have subject put on headphones
Add lateral padding to reduce movement. Supplement with masking tape on the forehead.
Give subject the emergency alarm bulb.
Give subject the Goggles. Adjust the visual correction lenses as need.
Give subject the button box. Have the subject position the box on his leg.
Landmark and Position subject in scanner.

Confirm that the Subject is O.K.
Call into subject.
Check equipment i.e. goggles

Run a Sagittal Scout
Setup Scan
Warn subject about noise.
Run Sag. Scout Scan
Exam scan for abnormalities. Contact Dr. Bookheimer or Dr. Cohen if necessary.

Check that EPI Data will be Placed on Correct APD Disk
Check acquisition disk on ADP II, change if necessary.
Check acquisition disk on a X Window, change if necessary. ADP Disk:

Shimming the Magnet
Select Shim/ShimmerSeq.
Review Screen
Make sure R/L direction is selected.
Run Shim/ShimmerSeq.
Run Shimmer on Instascan

Acquire a High-Resolution T2 Weighted Image
Select Basic Functional III- protocol specific
High Resolution Co-Planer- Oblique
Select AC-PC
